Boyd Russell, P. Eng – Fellow with 3esi-Enersight and Founder of Energy Navigator

Boyd Russell is a practicing petroleum engineer with over thirty years’ experience, affirmed as an expert by the Alberta Court. A graduate from the University of Alberta in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Boyd specializes in engineering software development, property evaluations, secondary and tertiary recovery methods, formation damage, and horizontal wells.

Boyd holds memberships in APEGA, SPEE and SPE and has authored numerous technical papers. He is a subject matter expert in forecasting unconventional oil and gas, decline curve analysis, as well as the use and construction of type wells. Boyd has a history of sharing this knowledge through SPE workshops, technical papers and guest lectures at Western University.

Primary Research Interests

Auto-forecasting, better and more accurate solutions to unconventional decline equations, type well methods, Analog Forecasting™.

Current research

Incorporating Monte Carlo (aggregation) into the construction of type wells, SEDA (statistically enhanced decline analysis) to include aggregation in reserves, bench tests for unconventional equations.
